Back in Town

Last week I was in Boston, where I spent some time walking through the city, remembering why I loved going to school there so much and reminiscing about the times Dave and I spent there while we were dating. Some photos of Boston can be seen here. And we saw some of our friends, and reconnected with their kids.
Yesterday was a good and productive day. I did two art canvasses, but I really can’t stand one of them! I overworked it. I need to just gesso it and start over again. I tried to do an Anne Grgrich type of face and failed miserably. I think the elements were too large for the canvas, and i was impatient, didn’t seal in the layers and let the layers dry as she taught us. It was fun, though, since I was experimenting. I’m glad I did it. I’ll probably put it aside for a while and take a look at it later to see what comes of it.
The other one, though, is more of what I have been doing lately. Abstract, fluid shapes. I like this one. It’s not done. It’s in process, but I’ve posted it here as a work in process. I Need to let it sit for a while and then I’ll come back to it. I’m considering some dimensional collage elements, but we’ll see. I never quite know what they’ll turn into until I’m doing it. It’s an 8″ x 10″ canvas board. Small for me these days, but I needed to get my hands dirty last night and I didn’t want to either clean off the desk completley or put up the easel.
I’m going to do some collage for my husband’s offices. He wants collages using images from Vesalius, an illustrator from the 1500′s. so I purchased some books with his images and a DVD as well. I am going to start looking at these pieces today and figure out how to make them work. I might start with some small collages first and then use them to create the larger ones. I’m not sure. So many ideas!
