after the great cleanup

Well, after the great studio dump cleanup, I was able to think and to do art. It was my greatest wish that this would be the result. I’m amazed at how well it worked! On Thursday I painted! It was such a pleasure to know where my favorite brushes were, to pull the paints out by color groupings and put them on my a palette. I painted some pages in my journal and did some journaling. I also did some work on the easel with a 16 x 20 stretched canvas and some canvas board. The canvas boards are just backgrounds for work this week.
The stretched canvas looks much different from most of my other work, but it just came out of me, free-flowing. I like that I used light colors for the background and then started adding in other layers of color. I am not sure it’s done yet, so I’m letting it sit for a few days. I’ll come back to it on Monday or Tuesday. It is for the studio, so it never really needs to get “finished”, you know? I can really work on it forever!
I also worked on some other backgrounds. I will see what comes to be with one of them. I specifically created it for the background for my husband’s collage request. I hope to work on that on Monday as well.
Another project I worked on is definitely for the studio. One of the things I definitely need is some way to add color and inspiration to my studio. The walls are white, the shelves are brown. I love the natural look of it, but I need more color and more inspiration. A few years ago, I purchased some papier mache letters in Wichita, KS quite a few years ago. I packed them in my stuff from Kansas City when we moved here over a year ago (And i think I had them for at least 18 months at that point!). The spelled out “ART”, “CREATE” and “IMAGINE”. Well, I had used “ART” for a project for Sakura’s Quickie Glue. Apparently they loved it (I will post a link when they put it on their site). So I purchased more ART letters as soon as I got home from the photo shoot! That inspired me to do my own similar thing. I used “INSPIRE” as my first one for the studio.

I used paper to collage the letters – it was very meditative to do so. I used the cut up scrapbook paper I had cut during the reorganizing. I was really not looking so much at the colors because I knew I’d be doing some painting over the top. On the ones I did for Sakura, I used Clearsnap’s Fluid Chalk Cat’s Eyes to color the “ART” letters and then I used Quickie Glue to add the faux guilding. I did it differently, though for my studio. I was in the mood to paint, so I used paint and added iridescent gold acrylic paint for the highlights. I used glazing medium to make the colors translucent. I wanted some of the papers to show through. I’m glad I did. I really like how these turned out.
