Manic Monday & Weekend Wrap-up

Posted on | December 4, 2006 | 8 Comments

i feel like it’s been a long time since i read my friends’ blogs and posted in my own. I know it’s just a few days, but after blogging almost every day in November, I sort of feel like I’m slacking! LOL

This weekend was filled with some fun art and some holiday stuff, too. On Friday evening, Dave went to play poker with some friends for their monthly game. That gave me time in the studio and time to go to the art store on Friday afternoon! (No, I don’t need an excuse for that, but it sure was a good way to start the weekend!)

Green Journal PageSo I did some backgrounds for journaling and to use in my collages. This is the first one I did (left) was using the color green as my base. I used an image of a frog that became something totally different when I started embellishing it. I like the colors in this page.Bound Journal Page

The second background (right) I did was a bit more emotional. In saw a picture of a painting that has a woman who was bound in chains (see left bottom) and it immediately made me think of the pain and suffering that is going on in Darfur. I had a map of Africa and then I took it and made the borders out of that. The dark center, I think, fits the mood of what this page will end up being – a statement about the pain and suffering going on there and how we can help. (I know… deep for a Monday…)
On Saturday evening, my husband and I attended Candelight Capers, the annual fundraiser for Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, which his practice is affiliated with. And on Sunday, I was completely exhausted from the event. And I didn’t drink AT ALL! It’s that these sorts of events tend to wear me out. And so I spent most of Sunday on the couch and in bed.

Today I started my morning with dental work (yay! the fun continues! LOL). I have this amazing dentist that one of Dave’s partners recommended, Harris Dental. If you’re in the Phoenix area and you don’t have a dentist or you don’t like the one you’re with, do check out Harris Dental. Dr. Brian Harris is my dentist and he is so gentle! I spent the morning getting a lot of work done, but honestly, I’m FINE now. I can’t believe he did a ton of work and yet I’m doing well.

And so, Monday continues… I didn’t get a chance before I left for the dentist (I was far too anxious), to post the Manic Monday prize! Yes, there is a Manic Monday prize drawing again this week! But because I’m running late, I’m going to extend the deadline for commenting to 5 pm Mountain Time Tuesday. I’ll post the drawing winner Tuesday evening! :) What, you ask, is the prize? Well, it is six bottles of Ranger Alcohol Inks – denim, bottle, terra cotta, mushroom, raisin, and oregano! These will be FREE to the winner of the drawing!

A reminder – to enter, leave me a comment to today’s post. Be sure to fill out the required email address to make the comment so I can reach you to get your snail addy on Tuesday! Good luck!

I like both of these backgrounds Fran. They’re both very pleasing to the eyes. Great combinations of colors and patterns.

You go girlie—you just keep crankin’ this fabulous art out! I am amazed. I am so slow when it comes to the creative process. I’ve been told that I am a “process” artist and not a “product” artist. I really, really want to be a “product” artist! I want to create way more than I do now, but something (I haven’t identified what exactly)gets in my way.

And as far as your drawing, you don’t have to twist my arm to get me to sign up!! Although I doubt very much that my LUCKY streak will continue! Winning those other drawings was a real oddity for me—but really FUN!!

Keep creating my friend, shari xxx

    Hi Fran,
The backgrounds are fabulous. You put so much thought into your art and you seem to have such detail.
I think I can still slide in before 5 p.m. for the draw? I’d love to be entered. I keep forgetting which days everyone has their draws. I just happened to be here by chance at this moment.
    Hugs,
    Wendy

Hi there Fran, what fabulous art here and so much feeling and emotion behind it, one of our church members Anne is in Dafur with Tear Fund she came home very briefly in August and it was an emotional time listening to her and what she has experienced and seen.

On the dentist front I wish I could use your dentist, I am not happy with mine but the dental situation in the Uk is bad ~ there just arent enough!!

Hope youre feeling better and thankyou for your lovely comments on my blog, Jude xxxx
