Happy New Year! And Art Goals!

Posted on | January 1, 2007 | 8 Comments

It’s 2007. I’m amazed at how quickly time passes when you don’t have to produce an entire magazine each month. I have been allowing myself to become completely consumed by my health, my art, and in finding out what is important to me. For me, that means that 2006 was a good year. Yes, this despite having a few months in the summer when I was not able to do much of anything due to persistent vertigo. I look forward to a healthier 2007 that allows me to continue to do what I love with the people I love.

I’m not a New Year’s Resolution kind of gal. I just decide to make a change whenever I need to and I do what I can to make it happen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But this year I do have some goals I’d like to focus on.

Goals and Milestones for 2007:

  1. This is the year that my husband and I will be married for 15 years. And this is the year that DH and I have a real vacation.
  2. This is the year that I try to get my artwork into a local gallery (No, I have no idea where to start!)
  3. This is the year that I explore fabric as a medium for my artwork, as well. In participating in the CPSJournalQuilts group, I am on track for this goal.
  4. This is the year that I continue my new exercise routine on a regular basis and head back to the gym.
  5. This is the year that I focus on marketing my artwork.
  6. This is the year that I continue to focus on my health and continue in my quest to feel better overall, including some weight loss.
  7. This is the year that I do more charity work, making sure that those who are in need are able to have what they need to survive.
  8. This is the year that I continue to clear out my studio from all the things I do not and will not use.

I think that’s enough. There are other things, I’m sure, but these are pretty big ones! :)

Computer update- I spoke with the Geek Squad today. They shipped the computer on the 29th back to Best Buy. Another hard drive was added. Now we’re waiting for it to arrive and they have to load the operating system on for me along with the drivers. It’s like starting over again, after just having started over last week. But I’m hopeful that this will actually be the final change to the laptop and that I will have success this time. Only time will tell… The best part of having back my laptop is that I can finally start to scan some artwork again for use on this blog.

Happy New Year all! And here’s hoping there are less computer challenges in 2006!:)

Hi Fran, I hadn’t realized you’d also joined the journal quilts group or maybe I just forgot. I haven’t had much chance to see what’s happening there. Good luck with all your goals.
I’ll look forward to seeing what you do for your quilts.
I’ve tagged you if you have a chance to do.
    Hugs,
    Wendy

[...] As I mentioned earlier, I have a goal for 2007 to start using some of my artwork in fabric. I took this image and put it on fabric (thanks to my trusty ink jet and some fabric from The Vintage Workshop) and then did some embroidery to bring out some of her features. I got into this and realized that I didn’t want to do too much because if I added beads, it would probably kill the sewing machine needle. Now, what you need to know is that I have taken exactly one class on sewing. And that was about 10 years ago. So I continue to fight with my sewing machine and I can’t do much more than sew a straight stitch or zig zag. In fact, I couldn’t even load my bobbin without the use of the darned manual, never mind inserting it back in the case! But I soldiered on. And I like where she’s going. She needs some sequins perhaps and some beads, and maybe some trim, and I need to play with my machine more, but honestly, I’m fairly pleased with this first attempt. [...]
