Best Laid Plans… And The Tag

I wrote this yesterday:
I might be quiet this weekend. I have a friend who lives in Ft. Collins, CO, Tracey. She has planned an artsy craftsy weekend for some of us to help her celebrate her 40th Birthday! And three of us are supposed to fly in - two from AZ, one from N. CA. Of course, this all depends upon the weather, so we spent time today in a yahoo chat trying to figure out what to do. Since the weather is so unpredictable and it’s also supposed to be below ZERO degrees there, we’re going to reconvene tomorrow at 9 am and make a decision. I’m determined that we will do this and that the weather wouldn’t dare stop the lot of us from getting together and playing! So I’ve done my laundry, pulled down the heavy winter coat, and I’m ready to roll!
I plan to bring my MacBook just in case we have delays at the airport AND so Tracey can show me some tricks and tips!
So, if you don’t “hear†from me for a few days, you’ll know why!
But last evening, while at dinner, I had vertigo. Now, some of you who read this blog may know that I have a chronic problem with vertigo, and that it will occasionally rear its ugly head. Well, my monthly treatments usually keep the vertigo at bay. I decided that I would see how I felt in the morning. And if i still had imbalance or vertigo, I’d cancel my trip. Unfortunately, I awoke with vertigo. So I canceled my trip. Thankfully, two of the other women who were tracking the weather are still going to go. So my friend Tracey will still have some fun artsy craftsy time with friends. They said they’ll call and take photos.
So, with fun friend plans dashed, I am at home on a dreary gray Phoenix day. These days are rare for us, but we do have them. And, with the front coming from the west, there’s snow up in Flagstaff and so we’re under overcast clouds here.
I am on the comfy chair in the studio typing and trying to finish up some new collage sheets I’m working on. (Yep. I’m a tease!) I’ll tell you more soon!
And, Manic Monday will be back, but it is actually sponsored by Sakura of America, with whom I have been working for a few years now. On Monday, I’ll post the prize and you will have ALL WEEK to sign up via comments to my blog. Any comment made next week gives you a spot in the drawing. Yes, that means that if you visit my blog once a day (the maximum number of entries per day), you’ll get 7 chances to win! Tell your friends to visit, because this is a GREAT prize!
And now for that book tag:
I am to reach for the first book within reach and go to page 123 and go to the 5th sentence and copy down the 3 following sentences.
The book I have is An Introduction to Drawing. This book is next to my comfy chair so that I can easily do some sketching practice when I’m feeling a bit less than up to snuff. I’m really happy with the instruction in this book, so if you’re someone who wants to learn how to draw or just wants to improve technique, this is a great opportunity. Here is the information:
Well, page 123 does not have any text on it. It’s a drawing. So looking at page 124, there are only 4 sentences… Here they are:
There are a number of factors that will influence the outcome of your landscape drawing: hw much time you have; what it is that you like about a particular scene and how long it will last if it is affected by sunlight or wind; what do you intend the drawing to be for.
Most landscapes are changing continually, with the sun moving round and changing, clouds scudding across the sky, the tide ebbing and flowing; all will seem to be in constant flux. Even if you have enough time to spend on location, the landscape might not give you the time to complete the elements you want to draw. This is where taking apotograph as well as doing the drawing can come in useful.
I think this speaks well to the need for both a sketchbook and a camera when you go on vacation!
And I tag Angie!
I’ll try to post more art later, if my head stops spinning!

Fran!
I’m so sorry you are feeling icky! This chronic illness stuff is no fun to say the least! You art though reveals a bright, strong spirit and it fascinates me to no end. I love to look at it and see if I can figure out how you get all those juicy layers…I think you’re like me though…just play without planning until it is perfect!
Take care, Michelle

Too bad about the vertigo. My blood sugars are being kind of crazy right now and leave me feeling kind of icky too. I need more exercise and do not sometimes feel like doing. Also I don’t get much ex. from doing art. I hope you’re feeling better soon.
I can hardly wait to comment next week for chances to win a prize. Yes! How cool.
Hugs,
Wendy
