Home again!

I’m so glad to be home.
As much as I always love seeing my niece, the travel was really hard on me. But it was worth it. There are very few people I’d do this quick trip for! Eliana was having her 6th birthday party this past weekend. We went to see her and to celebrate with her. And, well, she called us back in October or November and asked Uncle Dave if he’d do magic and “make the puppet talk”. So, Uncle Dave was the entertainment for her party.
Leading up to the party, we had a day where we got to go with Eliana and her parents to see her doing some of her usual activities. On Saturdays, Eliana takes baton twirling lessons at the community center and then goes to ice skating. Just befor twirling class started, Eliana brought me and her mother batons to twirl while she was in class. The instructor invited “the parents” to join in. So we did. It was a blast!
We then went to the ice rink where Eliana and her parents skated. Dave and I don’t skate. Can you imagine someone with chronic vertigo skating? Um… No, thank you! LOL I did take a lot of photos, but when I went to take them off of the card reader, I seem to have misplaced that card reader…. I know I will find it. I did actualy have it here at home when I switched it from the camera to the card reader…. Well, pictures to come at some point… The pictures below are from my father-in-law’s camera, so they are a bit small.
On Sunday, we had the big party.
Dave had been practicing his magic for weeks. He called Eliana up for two of the tricks and I presented her with the cape I had made (she’s wearing in on the left!). The kids’ favorite trick, apparently, was the rice paper trick (right), where Dave put white rice paper into his mouth and, lo and behold, brightly colored tissue papers came out instead! The kids jumped for the paper when he threw it to the crowd. LOL
They also enjoyed Chico the Chimp. Here is a photo of the two children who were involved in that trick with Dave. Each held on to his or her own envelope.
The capes they’re wearing are the other two that I made last week! And, while Eliana was allowed to keep her own, these will stay with Dave’s magic tricks so he can use them again and again. Unfortunately, you can only see the polka dot lining from this angle. I wish you could see them from the back. Perhaps when I get my other pictures…
And the show ended with Dave doing the classic – pulling a rabbit from the hat. Dave is trying to have Bitty Bunny come out from the magic hat. He’s looking for ways to bring him out – carrots, magic words, fairy dust, pleading… The kids are all screaming that Bitty Bunny is right there, pointing and yelling to Dave.B (Yes, that’s the Birthday Girl in the lower left pointing to help Uncle Dave find Bitty Bunny!)
After the magic show, the kids were, as expected, hungry! So it was time for ice cream and cake. Eliana blew out all the candles and, I hope, gets her wish!
It was a lovely weekend. I hope to have my pictures soon and pictures from Dave’s phone to add to these so you can see how Eliana dressed me and her Nana up as princesses with her. I miss her already, but it’s good to be home!

This sounds so wonderful – good for Uncle Dave. He sounds very talented, as are you to make the lovely capes.
I can hardly wait to see you as a princess.
Hugs,
Wendy

[...] On Sunday, Dave had plans to go to a baseball Spring Training game with his father, so my MIL and I decided to spend the afternoon together. We went to lunch and then we went back to her house so I could give her her first scrapbooking lesson. Mom, you did great! She did 3 pages her first time out! I think we’d have even gotten more done if the photos had already been printed. I’m going to put some together tonight for her to print out at the house so she can continue. Of course, our first subject is Eliana, who takes center stage in all family photos these days! I am going to keep scanning the family photos so we can get all of the photos into albums with some journaling. [...]
