I have mentioned before that I am participating in a calendar journal round robin and I’m involved in. The following are the pages I did for Kathy’s Journal for the month of February.
This is the first page I did in Kathy’s Journal. It’s a sign in page, but also a page that reminds us to “fly through February”. To me, February can be the longest short month in the world, especially when you’re in real winter weather. Lucky for me, I’m in sunny AZ, where the weather is about to be 80 tomorrow! |
I created the collage of this couple’s portrait a while back and thought it was perfect for Kathy’s journal during a month of Valentine’s Day. In this cabinet photo, the couple seems so comfortable with each other. It speaks to me of a long-lasting love that builds over time. |
This page I have shown before. it’s using 1″ x 1″ squares for small collages. The backgrounds are all done with watercolors and Color Mists – all using watercolor formats. I like the color and texture on this page. I added these rhinestones to just help introduce another element that’s not vertical or square. |
I believe I showed this page before, as well. It’s a pocket page that I created with a booklet of “50 Things about Fran”. I used paint sample strips for the booklet. Kathy asked that we list 50 things about ourselves somewhere in our month. This just seemed like a fun way to do it. |

This piece of art that shows a family all reading together was interesting to me. I didn’t want to cover up all of the faces; instead, I highlighted them by adding a doodled frame around the images. I doodled more on the bottom with an image. The text that I highlighted is a quote that was from Jessamyn West. It reads, “Fiction reveals truth that reality obscures.” Sometimes we get so caught up in our reality that we can only find the truth by reaching for the fiction and meaning behind it. |
This page is one that I created on a rainy dreary cold day here in Phoenix. They are infrequent here, but they do occur. When they do, I am drawn to bright colors to balance out the darkness. |
This started with a page of a woman who was sitting on a chair with a book. I liked the angle of her face and wanted to build a vignette around her face. I actually used some of the tissue paper from Dave’s magic show to create the background on this! The page is FILLED with magic! The body shape is done with Caran d’ Ache Neocolors and I used Matte Medium to seal the layers as I added colors. Wen it dried, I added the text, which states, “She reached for the stars, though her wings were not perfect.” It’s a reminder that we all have to reach and move forward rather than wait for the “perfect” time, for that time may never come. |
This page just “happened”! I started with several layers of sewing pattern tissue paper and then added a piece of mica in the upper left. Then I added yellow and then turquoise papint. When that dried, I added the red in a haphazard way – the first large flower in the right (the one that is most noticable) was done by drizzling the paint and then using a paper towel to create the shape at the top. I liked the shape so much, I repeated it. This page reminds me that spring is right here, peeking through the clouds. |
On Thursday, I will be spending the day with my MIL and FIL as my MIL has her angiogram. I will do my best to post how she’s doing, but that may not happen until Friday. Please think positive thoughts for my MIL, Marlene. I know she will be fine, but prayers and thoughts never hurt!

Beautiful eye candy. I love the bird calender page and the inchies – I like the effects of the rhinestones and especially like the image on the left side by itself. Where did you find her? I want to try inchies sometime too. Sigh. Too many ideas again.
Hopefully your mil doing alright.
Hugs to you,
Wendy

I’m just now getting back to your blog … these pages are absolutely amazing, Fran … and it’s depressing me that we aren’t in the same group! Maybe next year
