Earth Day CAC - Living Green
Posted on | April 22, 2007 |
Today is Earth Day!
Friday, in Create a Connection, we were asked to share how we are living green. I do my best to live as green as I’m able.
- We purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid, which I love and saves both the environment and money on fuel.
- We recycle our bottles, plastic, and paper (lots of paper!).
- We use solar energy to heat our water.
- We keep cotton bags in our cars to use instead of plastic bags when I shop.
- We use a shade near our back porch to keep the sun from coming in and to keep the air cooler in the house.
- We rarely use paper plates and cards when we entertain or when we’re in the house.
- We use Freecycle to pass on things to others who need them, instead of putting them in the trash or landfill.
- We donate clothing, shoes, non-perishable foods to charities, rather than tossing them.
- I sue a lot of recycled products in my artwork.
- I tend to prefer unbleached cottons, rather than bleached - no need to hurt the environment with bleach.
I know that there is more that we could do. I look for new ways to help regularly. I try to find things I can do in my life.
I hope that on Earth Day, today, you are able to rethink how you do some things, like where you can decrease waste, improve your consumption, and remember that there is only one Earth that we all live upon.

Fran, it sounds like you are doing alot! I forgot to mention that we recycle all our paper, glass and some plastics…We have a fabulous curb side recycling program here in Portage, MI! I’d love to get some info on solar heating your water…I’ve also thought about switching to a “tankless” water heater…have you heard if they are “green”?

WOW! so awsome! I so missed this! We do alot of recycling here too…Mostly paper…you can figure that one out hehe…plastic milk jugs, aluminum, cardboard etc. And pick up around our house outside of other peoples castaways and neighborhood of garbage. We don’t get curbside pickup here in the South but we have a recycle center of sorts to drop off all recycleables where they have large bins to sort them neatly.
