Short on Spoons, but Full of Happiness

I ran out of spoons this weekend. But I ran out before I noticed. So I paid for it yesterday. And I’m still paying for it today, too.
But I had a great time on Saturday. Dave had an all-day poker tournament; Angie’s husband, Chuck, had a “guy’s weekend” away. So I invited Angie and the boys over to swim. Her boys are 5 and 7, and they were so excited to swim in the pool. They had such a great time. It was fun to watch them. Honestly, I think my pool got more use on Saturday than it has since we moved in 2 years ago!
While the boys swam, Angie and I sat under the shade and fan and watched. At around 1 pm, they were tired, which was fine with us, since it was getting hotter out there in the AZ sun!
We came inside and the boys ate lunch and watched some movies Angie had rented for them while she and I sat in
the studio and did some art. Angie did some of her fabulous soldered charms and I did some doodle drawings. I don’t know what inspired me to work in black and white, but I am really enjoying the graphic feel of it. To the left is what I created on Saturday between swimming sessions with the boys and to the right is what I created Saturday morning while I was waiting for Angie to come over.
At around 2:30, the boys decided it was time to go back into the pool. Angie and I sat outside in the heat of the desert summer and I really think that’s where I went wrong. I should have either stayed inside or gone in the pool with the boys. It was far too much for me. After about 45 minutes, I told Angie I’d had enough. And she had, too. We brought the boys back in to watch another movie while Angie finished up her charm and then was kind enough to give me a haircut. (WHICH I LOVE, by the way!) Since Dave was not home yet (a good sign for his poker tournament!), I went to dinner with Angie and the kids. I got home around 7, and I craved artsy time alone in the studio. So I kept drawing to finish up the drawing I worked on during the day. I started another drawing, which I’m still working on.
Sunday morning I kept working on the drawing and then I spent some time listening to James Patterson’s Suzanne’s Diary for Nicolas which I’m really enjoying while I do art. I’m about half-way through. I’ll probably finish it today.
Today I have an appointment at 1 pm. Other than that, I plan to spend my day quietly in the studio. I might choose to move some stuff around and maybe put some things on freecycle since I’m getting tired of having them in my house and especially in the studio!

Fran, I love the doodles drawings – very nice crisp look to them. Glad you had a good time with Angie. I hope your husband did well in his poker tournament.
