Catching Up!

Well, it is already Wednesday. it is already June 5th, and I have not yet written since our anniversary celebration. We went to Eddie V’s in Scottsdale on Friday evening and it was lovely. I had, upon making the reservations,
I had told them that we were celebrating both our 15th anniversary and Dave’s birthday. They were most gracious hosts. They reserved a quiet table in a corner for us and there were two cards on the table – one for our anniversary and one for Dave’s birthday – along with rose petals. Everyone, from the hostesses to the wait staff wished us congratulations on both of our celebrations. And, while we were eating our appetizers, the general manager came over to share his congratulations and wishes for us, as well. It was a lovely evening, and we’ll likely dine there again for another happy occasion.

On Saturday morning, Dave left for a meeting in Kansas City, MO. We lived in Kansas City for 3 years, but I never really grew any friendships in the area at the time, so I opted to stay home. But I was not alone, that’s for sure! Angie came over with her boys and her niece, Cassidy. We monitored while the kids went into the pool and then we went to lunch. After lunch, the boys watched a movie with Cassidy and Angie and I talked (surprise, eh?!) and watched part of Traci Bautista’s Retro Rags DVD. The kids got restless, so Angie took them home and I watched the rest. This was my second time watching this, but I couldn’t stop myself from watching it through. I really enjoyed it. Traci gives so many tips and her teaching style is so relaxed. But, since there really is very little on TV during the summers, I decided I needed to get some videos. I went to Blockbuster and rented Dreamgirls and The Devil Wears Prada. Both are movies Dave had no desire to see.

I also spent some time this weekend doing more clean out of some of my studio. I found even more things I could do without and I reorganized things like buttons and brads that were in one big jar or multiple drawers but were difficult to find. I watch my local freecycle lists for creative storage items. I found someone who was giving away a dozen jars. My buttons and my thread spools are now in cool jars by color grouping and my brads are in small spice jars by color grouping. It adds some color to the studio and also reminds me what is there. It has been a good thing. I have more that I want to go through, but I needed an art break.

I did some backgrounds on Monday, making a complete artistic mess of the studio after all that clean-up! The thing is, it’s the first time in at least a month that I pulled out my heavy bodied acrylics. I’m gald I did. I got some cool effects. I’ll share them later, because I have to go and get ready for my treatment. I am hopeful that there won’t be the craziness this time that there was last time. I’m bringing my sketchbook with me to draw while I’m there. It should be interesting to see the things around me in a different way. I’l share later what I come up with!

Have a great day, all!

Fran, I hope the treatnment went well. I look forward to seeing your backgrounds. I’ve been playing with Photoshop lately, but I’m getting the itch to play with bacground ideas. There’s something about the flow and texture of putting things on paper. I think you’re very smart to carry your sketch book with you and know you’ll come up with some great perspectives on common objects.

oh Fran, it’s good to see you posting again. Sometimes time alone to watch movies and do whatever pleases you, is just what the doctor ordered! I will be thinking healing thoughts for you and keep a candle lit that your treatment goes better this time.
..and thanks for looking at my blog. now that my company’s gone i better getback to creating!
