Catching Up!

I had my treatment this week, so much of the week was spent either preparing for the treatment by getting a lot of art out or recovering from the treatment. On Monday, I spent the day working on some canvases. I created some textural backgrounds to use in collage or to paint with. I thought I’d share those images with you:
My treatment was Wednesday, and it was not an easy one. I took extra medication during it to get through the nausea I was having. I slept a lot during the treatment, which we did over 4 hours, instead of 3, like last time. We’re tying hard to find the right speed to do the infusion. We hope that it will mean that I can actually get past some of the side-effects more easily. So far, however, that’s not the case.
I spent all day on Thursday completely fatigued and nauseous. I slept most of the day and I watched some really old Lifetime movies – Danielle Steele’s Perfect Stranger, A Walk to Remember, and some other things I cannot even remember. They were light enough that I could enjoy them while feeling ill.
Thursday morning also marked teh day that I started my first class at Joggles. Sue Bleiweiss is teaching Mixed Media for Fiber Artists. Though I consider myself more of a mixed-media artist than a fiber artist, I knew I could learn a lot from Sue. I’ve been admiring her work for a while, reading her blog religiously. I had the energy to print out the information on the first lesson and to sign up for the forums, but beyond that, I was far too tired to do anything else. I did hope that I’d be able to start soon, becuase the class looked so interesting!
And Friday morning, I was blessed with some energy! I created the backgrounds for the first two parts of the lesson. To the right is the first piece I created. I can’t give too much away, since this is Sue’s class, not mine, but suffice it to say – it’s EASY to do and the finished piece is fun to play with!
I finished this piece and went on to the next piece, which has several layers and is much heavier. It took several hours to dry, and then I added additional layers. This morning, it was finished and it became the covers of a sample book, where we can save our samples from class. This book is shown to the left. I used the background created in the first part on the inside. It was a fun book to make, and I’m looking forward to the next part, which involves dress pattern tissue. I’m hoping to work on that one tomorrow.
Angie came over for a fun art day. I was feeling a bit nauseous in the morning, but I was much better as the day went on. Angie and I did a lot of talking and spent time playing with wire wrapping some wire to create the cool nest pendants that have been going around. Angie put hers on her blog here. I will try to post mine tomorrow, along with another project or two. Now I’m off to spend the rest of the evening with my darling husband!

Fran, sorry the treatment is knocking it out of you, but I think you got to some art quicker than you did last time. The class project looks cool and like something you’ll be using in other projects. I like the idea of making a sample book. Your acrylic backgrounds are always rich in texture and color. Very nice.

ugh Fran sounds like that treatment really knocked the wind out of you but I’m glad to see that you’re recovering nicely. Your backgrounds are gorgeous as usual and the pieces from the class are fab!

Lovely canvas backgrounds. And the items from Sue’s class look very good too. I would have liked to take that class, but I just couldn’t fit it in. Hope you feel really well soon.
