New Toys

Yesterday I felt all cooped up in the house. Angie had told me the day before that there was a Jo-Ann’s Fabrics going out of business near her. Since I started making the totes, I needed some larger cuts of fabric and I’ve been going through thread like water! So, I headed over there to get some fabric. And oh, my goodness! Did I get get fabric!
The minimum was 2 yard cuts and all the fabric was on sale for 20% – 40% off the lowest ticketed price. Well, I am a sucker for batiks and bright colors (doesn’t surprise you, does it?) and they had a lot. I got some of almost every one they had!
And, well, you can’t sew without thread, so I headed over to their closeout of Gutterman threads (my favorite threads!). I got quite a bit of thread to use with my new fabric. Can you tell I’m a sucker for a sale, especially for art stuff? Well, I am indeed!
And since I was about a mile from the 35th Ave Sew N Vac, where I bought my Pfaff, I went to check out the Pfaff Fabric Mover. The Fabric Mover is something I have wanted for a while now. It helps to do free motion embroidery by moving the fabric on a platform and regulating the stitches. I had been told by my husband that I should get it for myself for Chanukah. So, I did! Even better – it was on sale this week! Now the key to getting out of that store with your wallet still in-tact is to avoid – at all costs – the fabric section. Since I had already purchased the bounty of fabric above, I was not even tempted! I walked right out of there and came home to play with my new toy.
So far, I’m still getting the hang of it. The sewing I have done until now used the feed dogs to move the fabric, with my hands pushing and pulling it into angles. This is much less strain on my shoulders and I’m getting the feel for it. Today, with some practice, I hope to start to quilt one of the totes I prepared the other day.
So, that’s the update from our home. I hope you’re having a great holiday season!

What a great shopping day! I look forward to seeing how you quilt with the fabric mover (I use the pushing the fabric around method you talked about). Enjoy!!!!
