Vacation Continued

Posted on | July 24, 2007 |

I know I said I’d share some photos, but, well, it’s vacation! We had a fabulous time. I’m so lucky, because Dave and I really enjoy time together. We listened to books on our iPods, music, and talked for all the hours we were driving. We shared the driving and stopped frequently for coffee! We are blessed because we really do love to be together.

Utah Trip MosaicWe really enjoyed catching up with Dave’s friends and colleagues in Snowbird, despite the 100 degree plus weather. We got to see my friend, Julia Andrus, the inventor of Perfect Pearls and other products. Julia has been battling breast cancer for the past 5+ months and I used to see her at least a few times a year back when I was working in the craft industry. We never get to see each other any longer, so I knew I would make a point of seeing her while we were there.

The amazing part of the visit was that Julia and I had not met each other’s husbands and had really not been in a situation where we could share our work with our husbands in a relaxed environment. Julia’s husband, Mont, is so darling and sweet. Very understated, like my Dave. They hit it off. Julia and I, of course, couldn’t stop chatting! LOL She looks lovely, even after 5 months of intense chemotherapy. Her next stop is Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Center, for radiation and follow-up care. I’ve created a mosaic (left) of the visit to UT and the photos fromNavajo Nation seeing Julia.

From there, we drove through the Navajo Nation on our drive to the Grand Canyon. The drive was amazing. So much beauty and so much desolation all at the same time. It was over 105 degrees and there were some Navajo women selling their wares along the side of the road. I could barely stand it out there for the 15 minutes we stood and took photos and then purchased some of the jewelry. I took some of the photos to the right while we were driving. I could not begin to miss some of these amazing rock formations near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

We arrived at The Grand Canyon early evening and went directly to our hotel. We were bone tired from the drive and all the different elevations we’d been through. But it was well worth it. Grand Canyon TripThe next morning, we got up early to go and drive through Grand Canyon National Park. I have to say, I was completely overwhelmed with the size of it. You cannot see one side from the other. Logically, this makes sense and I think I “knew” it. But I never appreciated it quite so much until I was there and saw nothing but these incredible rock formations. I wish it hadn’t been so hot, because I would have sat out and painted or sketched. However, i took many photos, so I plan to use them as a reference for painting. More photos can be seen in my flickr album from this trip.
